Nothing kills your post-workout buzz more than finishing off with the same painfully boring ab routine. Crunches, sit-ups, bicycles, leg lifts, Same crap, different day.

Get off the floor and hop onto the nearest Ab Coaster. It looks lime something out of Star Wars and sounds like bowling balls, but it rocks your abs. Did anybody say “six pack?” You may be well on your way . . .

But proper diet and exercise is necessary in addition to abdominal training. The An Coaster creators know this, which is why the include nutrition and cardio advice in the manual. The information is not extensive, but it’s enough to get you started. We like how the exercise is accommodating to both beginners and experts. It’s takes the movement of a hanging leg raise – one of the best (and most difficult) abdominal exercises you can do – and simplifies it so it can be performed by anyone.

Since the Ab Coaster has you upright off the floor, minimal strain is placed on both your neck and lower back. The motion recruits your abdominal wall and your core stabilizers, but you must use proper form (see instructions below). Beginners my want to start by moving the carriage only a few inches up the track and progress through the full range of motion as they become stronger. Progress further by pulling the carriage up with your abs and isometrically holding them in that contracted position. Work your obliques by twisting the seat in ether direction and train your entire core using one machine.

The most important aspect to every fitness plan is adherence and variation. You must vary your exercises frequently to avoid plateaus, and you must keep exercises interesting so you continue you to work out. The Ab Coaster addresses both modalities; it’s different from your typical, floor-bound core exercises, and because it’s different, it’s fun. If you loathe ab work (as do I), the Ab Coaster may motivate you to approach it differently – from the bottom up. Work it into your routine 3-5 times a week.
